Who we are
HomeUpgraders Apps is a renovation documentation and verification platform operated by HomeUpgraders.ca in Ottawa, Ontario. We handle your personal information under Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA). Questions or requests: info@homeupgraders.ca.
What we collect, and why
Account details (name, email, whether you're a homeowner or contractor) — to create and secure your account.
Location (postal code area / FSA, and a project address if you provide one) — to match projects with local contractors and apply the right building rules.
Project details (titles, notes, schedules, change orders) — to run your projects.
Scan photos and measurements of your home's interior — to power layout analysis, measurement verification, and code checks. We treat interior photos as sensitive information.
Contractor verification data (license status, insurance certificate details, WSIB clearance status) — collected only from contractors who explicitly opt in, item by item, to display verification badges.
We don't collect anything a feature doesn't need, and we tell you why at the point of collection.
Where your data lives
Your data is stored with Supabase, our database provider. Access is restricted so each user can only see their own records; contractors see a project only when the homeowner grants them a seat on it. These restrictions are enforced at the database level, not just in the app.
What we never do
We never sell your personal information.
We never send messages, bookings, or payments on your behalf without your explicit approval of each action.
We never use your interior photos in marketing, demos, or training material without your separate written consent.
We never display a contractor as "not verified" as a mark against them — verification badges are opt-in; absence of a badge just means absence of a badge.
Your rights
Access: ask us what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy.
Correction: fix your information any time in your profile, or ask us to.
Deletion: ask us to delete your account and associated data. We will confirm completion.
Complaint: raise a privacy concern with us at info@homeupgraders.ca. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Retention and breaches
We keep project data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping, then delete it. If a data breach ever creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected users and report it to the Privacy Commissioner as PIPEDA requires.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll tell you before the change takes effect and ask for fresh consent where the law requires it.
